Dead Nobodies #10 – Fishfingers Of The Best

Posted: 2nd April 2012 by hoddsr in Podcasts

Watch Out For The FishFinger Beast !

It’s a wrap !!!

Here is the newest and tastiest and fishiest Dead Nobodies yet. Sourced from prime North Atlantic Prog and Rock (definitely from sustainable stocks), no I don’t know what I’m going on about either. There’s probably a clue, in the podcast, somewhere.

Anyway, here it is, this month featuring Steven Wilson, The Cult, The Third Ending, InFictions, Astra, The Aristocrats, Nerve Toy Trio, The Fierce and The Dead and much more. Also joining from the monstrous deep come the Krakens of Rock or if you prefer, Van Helen, Yes, BOC, IQ and…. STEELY DAN !!!

Also included is this months giggery reportage courtesy of James Gigging Forever Hendry. Didn’t he do well ?

Thanks to our sponsor, Mr B Elzebub for his guest appearance…

See you next time, assuming that my head is still on the right way round and my studio is not covered in green vomit.

Don’t forget, get your tickets for Celebr8 by clicking on the image o the left of the page.

All the Beast,

Bertxx

DN Update !!

Posted: 16th March 2012 by hoddsr in Podcasts

Hello there !

Well this next Dead Nobodies is taking on a somewhat, err, alternative/indie flavour. I know ! Worrying isn’t it ?

Never fear, it will, of course, be finely tooled and exquisitely fantastic alt/ind (if indeed any of us still subscribe to the idea that music needs to fall into neatly defined categories, of course) and there may well be some proggy stuff and some RAWK too.

Also, this show will see the return of gig fiend James “Gigging Forever” Hendry. Yes he passed his audition (albeit by a narrow margin) and will regale us all regarding the gigs he hasn’t gone too this month and asking me about the gigs I have. Frankly I’m wondering if, I have to do all the work, whether he’s worth the money.

Fortunately he doesn’t get paid !! And (good news everyone!) I’ve already warned him that M83 are NOT getting in the show ! We have to draw the line somewhere, after all.

On a serious note, we hope and pray for the safe return of one of our prog brethren, Owain Roberts. Spread the word if you can https://www.facebook.com/findowainroberts

Peace be with you all.

Dead Nobodies #9 – Cast List and Updates

Posted: 25th February 2012 by hoddsr in Podcasts

Hello everyone.

Just a couple of updates:-

Down below is a nice picture and the playlist, with links, of the artists featured in DN9.

The Enhanced podcast (chapters, artwork, links) is now available via iTunes. If you have an iThing it’s worth downloading this version as the audio encode quality is slightly better (to my ears anyway) plus you get artwork and links to band websites and the ability to navigate chapters. etc

Also, the eagle eyed amongst you will have noticed a new poster on the left for the recently announced Celebr8 Festival to be held in glorious Kingston-Upon-Thames on 7/8 July. Tickets available from The Merch Desk from 27 February. It’s going to be a great event – Dead Nobodies will be there !! More information to follow,

In the meantime keep up with the event at the Event pages on LastFM and Facebook.

Cheers you lot !!

Dead Nobodies #9 – Gigging Forever

Posted: 21st February 2012 by hoddsr in Podcasts

The Face Of Gigging

How’do ?

Gigs, we love ‘em, and this month, we meet someone whose whole life (seemingly) is spent going to them. What better person to take us through a personal and thorough review of some of the choicest, juiciest gigs from 2011 than the King Gig Goer himself, James Hendry AKA gig blogger Gigging Forever.

Join James and I as we wind through the hazy, music filled backwaters of 2011′s gigs, taking in the CRS BoTY awards, strolling past MattFest and Summers End, winding down the back alleys of Opeth and Steven Wilson and finishing off in the little wooded glade that was the Frost* AGM.

And to accompany us on our retrospective, we have some excellent music, mostly culled from live offerings, including Caravan, Mostly Autumn, Rush, Pineapple Thief and much more. Even the theme music from Knight Rider appears in there somewhere !!

All Hail the Hoff !!

Bertxx

WARNING – This podcast may contain opinions.

Oops !!

Many apologies, but it seems the first edition of the podcast got released without the music from Concrete Lake. The Podcast Operatives who pull this show together in the depths of Gable End Studios have been subject to a fate worse than a fate worse than death. Normal service has now been resumed… hopefully.

Dead Nobodies #8

Posted: 28th January 2012 by hoddsr in Podcasts

Wotcha, as we say in Norfolk !

So here’s the first Dead Nobodies of 2012. It’s a ramshackle collection of top tunes that have been loitering around our listening for some weeks and months, so we thought, what with it being the New Year and all and how there’s not THAT much going on as yet, that we’d put them together and make a show out of them ! Topper, eh ?

Many of the artists that you’re about to hear (in an MP3 download or stream from this here website, or from iTunes which includes the MP3 version and the spiffing ENHANCED version, with artwork, chapters and links) are first timers on Dead Nobodies, but let’s hope they don’t have to wait too long to revisit.

Featured for the first time are:-

Syd Arthur
Konchordat
Mr So & So
Lunatic Soul
Joe Bonamassa
Van Halen (how they must have been waiting for this opportunity :-) )
Fastway
Paul Cusick
Warmrain
DeeExpus
Touchstone

Bankers include:-

Joe Satriani
Amplifier
Rush
Colosseum II

There may be some other things too !

On a sad note, during production of this podcast, we heard that Andrew MacNaughton, photographer to the legendary Rush died in LA whilst on assignment for the band. This podcast is dedicated to him. RIP Andrew.

We’ll be back early next month for a review of 2011 gigs and a very special show at the end of Feb.

Till then, rock on and remember, you never know what’s round the corner so carpe diem, my friends :-)

Bertxxx

PS – If you know anyone who’d like this show then please spread the word and come and “like’ us on Facebook

UPDATE : I’ve added a DropBox link if you have problems download from this site for whatever reason. You can stream from DropBox too if you like.

Happy Xmas From Dead Nobodies

Posted: 24th December 2011 by hoddsr in Podcasts

Hello and a very Happy Xmas to you all.

There have been a lot of new “likes” on our Facebook page, and I’d like to thank every one of you for spending the time to come over and “like” us and download the show. It means a lot, thank you. Tell your friends – target 100 ! :-) .

I was also overcome by the number of people who said hello at The Forst* gig at The Peel last on 18/12 and said they dug the show. Brought a tear to me eye, so it did :-)

Thank you all every much

Depending on how many mince pies I eat, there may be a an Xmas Bonus DN for the Xmas/New Year break. Just to tide us all over. Then it’s back to service as normal with in January, after I’ve recovered from the Chickenfoot Gig on 14 Jan.

I’ll be introducing a couple of new features for 2012 which I think will be really cool. Until then…

Peace.

Dead Nobodies #7 – The Big Banana Xmas Edition

Posted: 8th December 2011 by hoddsr in Podcasts

It's Santa. With Bananas as Reindeer ! See ?

Hello and Happy Christmas !!

Yes, it’s the Dead Nobodies Big Banana Xmas Edition, named after a refrain in the glorious Black Light Machine by the awesome Frost*.

By spectacular coincidence, Frost* main-man, keyboard genius and, more importantly, Top Biscuiteer Jem Godfrey comes out to play this month.

Blend that with some stunning freshly boiled Prog and Rock, serve with a garnish of talky nonsense and you have a feast fit for any Xmas Lunch.

And, like all proper Xmas editions, this one is longer (cont Two Ronnies Xmas Special).

As always take your pick from an MP3 download or stream from this here site, or mosey on over to iTunes for a subscription free of all charge.

MP4 enhanced version for owners of iThings now available !!

Please go over to Facebook to visit Dead Nobodies and press that “like” button !!

If I don’t see you before, have a great Xmas and New Year !

Rock, Rock the Power Of Rock

Welcome to a very special edition of Dead Nobodies, featuring ace singer, songwriter, guitar player and all round top bloke, Dec Burke.

On 17 Oct 2011, Dec released his latest album, Paradigms and Storylines. The album is a landmark release in Dec’s career and is the culmination of many months hard work with a new production team based mostly in Sweden.

Back in September, Dec and I spent a very agreeable afternoon listening to the new album and chatting about his influences, his musical history, from his Rush tribute band The Spirit of Rush, through to the formation of Darwins Radio and the release of Eyes of The World and Template for A Generation, his work with Frost* on Experiments In Mass Appeal, and onto his solo output starting with Destroy All Monsters and concluding with a run through of some of the songs from the new album.

The new album is one of the best releases of this year characterized by powerful yet highly melodic songs (it also has cracking artwork by the amazing VitP !)

You can buy it from Dec’s website www.decburke.com

There’s also a link to Dec’s site in the “We Recommend” section on the left.

As for the podcast, as usual you can stream or download an MP3 version using the controls below, or get it through iTunes. iTunes also carries the “enhanced” version, with chapters, artwork and web links.

Hope you enjoy it !

Next month – a surprise guest. Stay tuned and, as Dec would say, “Rock !”
